Some medicines cause a serious reaction when the skin is exposed to sunlight. The skin becomes quickly reddened, inflamed, and, in severe cases, blistered, looking much like an extremely bad case of sunburn. Keep yourself well protected from the sun if you are taking these sun-sensitive herbal medicines:

  • St. John’s wort
  • Dong quai
  • Pyridoxine
  • Angelica root
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g.,ibuprofen, naproxen)
